چکیده

This paper considers the theoretical and experimental approaches to performance improvement of pneumatic linear actuators. Two On/Off, 3/2 pneumatic valves were used to control the position of a pneumatic piston rod through the closed-loop application of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)-sliding mode algorithm. System parameters have been experimentally selected in order to reduce the tracking errors for sinusoidal inputs. Experimental studies suggest that the applied algorithm with the chosen parameter settings resulted in an improved experimental performance, and hence can be applied to many industrial systems.

Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) Sliding Mode Control of Pneumatic Servo Systems

This paper presents a control methodology that enables nonlinear model based control of pulse width modulated (PWM) pneumatic servo actuators. An averaging approach is developed to describe the equivalent continuous-time dynamics of a PWM controlled nonlinear system, which renders the system, originally discontinuous and possibly non-affine in the input, into an equivalent system that is both c...

Position Control of a Pulse Width Modulated Pneumatic Systems: an Experimental Comparison

In this study, a new adaptive controller is proposed for position control of pneumatic systems. Difficulties associated with the mathematical model of the system in addition to the instability caused by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) in the learning-based controllers using gradient descent, motivate the development of a new approach for PWM pneumatics. In this study, two modified Feedback Error L...

Accurate Sub-millimeter Servo-pneumatic Tracking Using Model Reference Adaptive Control (mrac)

A model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) for compensating friction and payload uncertainties in a servopneumatic actuation system is presented in this paper. A friction model combining viscous and Coulomb friction is formulated within the framework of an adaptive controller. Due to the asymmetric nature of Coulomb friction in pneumatic piston actuators, a bi-directional Coulomb friction mod...
